Canon Character Information
Appearance: Paige stands at 5’4”, though she often likes to wear high heels and gain a few more inches. She has a tattoo on her right shoulder blade of a raven-haired pin-up girl. Over the years her hair has gone through several color changes. Originally it is a dark brown that she wears in a variety of fashions, preferring to keep it shoulder-length. Paige is very fashionable and loves to wear dresses, skirts and other cute clothes.

Personality: One of Paige’s most defining qualities is her independence. Having been an only child for many years, Paige grew accustomed to doing her own thing and struggled a lot with the teamwork that came with the Power of Three. She constantly fought back, determined to do things her own way. Even after bonding with her sisters and becoming more accepting of them as a unit, Paige still sought for a destiny separate from her sisters. It wasn’t that she loved her sisters any less, simply that she wanted her own identity that wasn’t tied to theirs. This independence caused her to butt heads with her sisters on many occasions, particularly with Piper. Over time she did learn to work with them but she never stopped fighting for her individual path.

Paige is very much a free spirit, which goes hand-in-hand with her independence. She often struggles when she is burdened by responsibility. When she first came into her powers she ran from them, and didn’t always use them in the right way. Over time she grew more comfortable in her craft and grew to love that side of her, yet she still balked whenever she was faced with a new responsibility. Such was the case when her Whitelighter powers called to her. She fought against that responsibility and panicked when facing charges. In one instance, the call to be free was strong enough to turn Paige into a nymph. However, once she gains the responsibility she puts her all into what she does.

Paige has shown on many occasions how she can be stubborn. She is a very strong-minded individual and wants to have her way. She doesn’t like to be told what to do. This stubbornness sometimes leads her into trouble, again often having her clash with her sisters who try to push her in a different direction. When she stubbornly tried to help Richard despite her sisters’ protests, for example, or how she stubbornly chose to trust Kyle Brody even though her sisters did not. Luckily Paige isn’t so stubborn that she refuses to change. In fact, she is the type to learn from her mistakes. This is true in her magical work as well as mortal work. Sometimes Paige’s stubbornness can be a good thing. She doesn’t give up easily and once she sets her sights on something, she pursues it with determination. This served her well while she was fighting against the Elders to keep Magic School open after Gideon’s death. It also helped her with some of her more difficult charges. Though these difficult charges rejected or ran from her, Paige pursued them and eventually was able to help.

Paige is the type of woman who will say what she thinks. She can be very blunt and doesn’t usually sugarcoat her words. Sometimes those words can come out crass or sarcastic. She isn’t afraid to share her opinion, even if it comes out unpleasant. When she’s relating to guys she’s interested in, this bluntness lets them know she’s interested without playing any games. With Kyle, she came right out and demanded what the problem was since they both liked each other. With her sisters, she’s willing to deliver them hard truths. This was evident when she suspected Cole if still being evil. Paige voiced her concerns despite knowing how her sisters felt about the issue. When Paige becomes excitable or nervous she tends to ramble, a trait that only adds to her tendency to say what she thinks.

On the outside, Paige shows confidence and for the most part this is true. However, there are many times in her years where Paige has been insecure. For a long time, Paige compared herself with Prue and worried she could never match up to her half-sister. She struggled to get over it but still felt “incredibly lame” for not matching up even after devoting herself full-time to the craft. She also worried a lot about beginning her Whitelighter duties. She panicked over messing up or not being good enough. A lot of this comes from her desire to not fail or disappoint anyone. She longs to prove herself to her sisters, the Elders and herself that she is capable of whatever task she’s given. Although she loves her adopted parents very much, it is hinted that Paige struggled with the fact that she was abandoned at birth. She threw herself into Piper’s baby shower because no one had been allowed to celebrate her own birth, so she wanted to be sure Piper’s half-Whitelighter baby was celebrated.

Paige has a kind and caring heart. This comes from her Whitelighter half, and influenced her to become a social worker. She’s protective and stands up against people she sees doing wrong. In everything she does, Paige works to help others. Despite her feelings about Cole, Paige bent over backwards to help Phoebe get ready for her wedding day. Although she struggled with her duties as a witch and tried living a life outside it with her temp agency jobs, Paige still couldn’t resist helping anyone who came to her. Eventually she called it her raison d'être, or “reason for being”. Her inner ability to help and guide also served her well while she was running Magic School, and again when she embraced her destiny as a Whitelighter. No matter what role Paige takes, she can’t help but be drawn to take care of others and guide them.

Paige is very much an outside-the-box thinker. She’s a creative and artistic type, which led to a talent in drawing and painting that she unfortunately had to give up because of her Charmed duties. However, she is able to use that creativity in other ways, such as in the creation of new spells. Her out-of-the-box thinking helps her come up with ways to change spells, like substituting “dirt bag” instead of “demon” to teach a sleazy guy at her office a lesson. Unfortunately, this way of thinking sometimes goes against her sisters. Most notably, when Piper was pregnant Paige took more command and changed things to suit her own style. Doing things like color-coding the Book of Shadows and rearranging their potion ingredients helped with Paige’s way of thinking, but had her butting heads with Piper. Still, her creative thinking does lead her to try things her sisters wouldn’t think of, and sometimes it even saves the day, such as using the four elements of nature to find nymphs.

Like everyone else, Paige has a dark side. Hers is more influential as she was actually evil in one of her past lives. Though she evolved from that, she did share some traits from the Evil Sorceress like her stubbornness and powerful magic. In her teen years Paige dabbled in her dark side by hanging with a bad crowd: smoking, drinking underage, cutting class and the like. When she was taken back in time to face her parents’ death she realized how horrible she had been back then, and knew it was because of her parents she became who she was as an adult. Still, there was some darkness in her; enough for the Source to tempt her into using her powers for evil during the forty-eight hour window of opportunity. It also opened her to dating men like Richard and Kyle, who both did questionable and sometimes dangerous things. Still, although she has that dark side Paige works past it and chooses to use her powers for good.

In this way, Paige is a lot like Phoebe. Both experienced a past life where they were evil, and later had that past life affect their present day. Both also rebelled when they were teenagers and eventually turned their lives around. These similarities helped the two bond and helped them understand each other. Paige idolized Phoebe a lot, even wishing she could be like her at one point. Of course they butt heads, especially when Phoebe tries to meddle in Paige’s business, but it’s clear they care about each other deeply. It’s because of this that Paige tries so hard to make Phoebe’s wedding perfect, and why she works so hard to vanquish Cole to give Phoebe peace of mind. Paige also showed her support of Phoebe by going to the other woman’s high school reunion. When Phoebe chose to be Cole’s dark queen, Paige was the most willing to welcome her back and try to find the good in her. The two are each other’s biggest supporters in both good times and bad.

As for Piper, Paige struggled more to get along with her. Especially in the beginning, Piper was less open about welcoming a new sister into the family so soon after Prue’s death. Paige butted heads with her constantly due to their different ways of thinking. Still, Paige was the one who understood that Piper turned into a Fury due to her suppressed anger at Prue. Paige reached out to Piper then, telling her it was okay to hate Prue. Paige was also the one to encourage Piper to “test” having a kid with an electronic baby. And of course Paige became one of Wyatt’s primary protectors by setting up alarm systems and even risking herself to learn about the demon market. Paige and Piper have similar strong-willed personalities and stubborn streaks, which was one reason why the two clashed so often. However, the two managed to find common ground by sharing the burden of their witchcraft, and Piper even became an encourager for Paige to seek her own path. Paige learned to be more responsible and more motivated in learning her craft thanks to Piper. Over time they even grew to understand each other’s quirks and learned when to stay out of the way.

A different kind of bond formed between Paige and Leo. Of course as her Whitelighter, he gained her trust and confidence by encouraging her and letting her discover her strengths. Leo was the one she went to for problems, sometimes without discussing them to either Phoebe or Piper. She told him about how she lost her parents, and later it was he who went with her when she relived that day. With that and other issues, she showed more willingness to confide in Leo than in her sisters. And because she was part Whitelighter, too, Leo became the one to help guide her through that part of her life. He understood certain aspects of her that her sisters couldn’t and helped bring those aspects out in her. It is likely because of Leo’s own dedication to his charges that Paige grew more confident in her own ability as a Whitelighter. She even guided him on occasion and gave him Whitelighter-worthy advice. It said a lot to her respect for him as a guide and teacher that she put him in charge of Magic School.

Paige’s adopted family probably had the biggest influence in her growing up. Although she was adopted, she loved her parents very much and saw them as her “real” parents. Losing them as a teenager was very traumatic for her but they still influenced her by their memory, eventually getting her into college and her obtaining a degree in social work. The closeness she had with her adopted family made her very reluctant at first to embrace her biological family. She was resistant at first to calling Penny Halliwell “Grams” and told her biological father Samuel that she never gave him much thought growing up. However, there was always a part of her that wanted to know about her biological family. This was what drew her to the Halliwells in the first place and what made her come to P3. Being adopted also gave her a different perspective on things. When the girls found a demon baby, she insisted he could be taught good because of nurture versus nature. Being adopted also probably influenced her desire to become a social worker and help others like her.

Powers/Abilities/Talents: Orbing: Paige has the ability to transport herself and anyone she’s touching across great distances. On the show, it’s shown that even mid-orb she can pick someone else up with her, and one character was able to hop onto an orb without Leo or Piper knowing. Paige and whoever she has along will have their bodies covered in white-blue light (it looks like small orbs of light, thus the name) that reforms when they reach their destination.

Charges: These are basically people that Whitelighters are assigned to protect. Paige will be able to hear them call out her name no matter where they are, as well as sense if they are in danger/if they’re hurt. Most of the time the sensing is described as a “jingle”, and with many charges there is usually a lot of chatter in the Whitelighter’s head. After a while they learn to separate the voices. Whitelighters can also understand whatever language their charges are speaking.

Healing: Whitelighter healing has been shown to have a pretty wide range, from minor cuts and fevers to mortal wounds. However, they can’t bring back the dead.

Hovering: Whitelighters have the ability to hover in the air with or without the help of orbing. Leo has done this a few times, like to change lights or to fix a picture or to meditate. From what has been shown, this only seems to work straight up and down and needs concentration in order to work.

Photokinesis: This is the ability to create and manipulate light. The best example of this in the show is when Paige goes back to the 60s and sees Leo doing a light show; he was also able to create lights for his wedding. The lights usually manifest as an orb and seem self-sustaining, meaning that once they’re created they don’t need the user’s full concentration.

Glamour: Paige has the ability to change her appearance. Basically she can look like another person, down to their voice. I honestly can’t see there being a need for her to do this at the moment, so out of all the abilities I’ve listed, this is the one I can live without her getting back.
